Italy & European Union (EU FIC 1169/2011)

Are Khandani Foods products compliant with EU food regulations? Yes. All Khandani Foods products destined for Italy and the broader EU market are packaged in full compliance with Regulation (EU) No. 1169/2011 — the Food Information to Consumers (FIC) regulation. This includes mandatory allergen declarations (14 EU-recognized allergens), full nutrition panels per 100g, and Italian-language labeling for retail sale in Italy.

Regulatory Framework

Italian Ministry of Health & European Commission (EFSA). Governed by Regulation (EU) No. 1169/2011 — applies to all pre-packaged food sold in the EU, including imports from third countries like Bangladesh.

Mandatory Label Elements (Article 9)

  • Food name, full ingredient list
  • Allergen declarations — highlighted distinctly in the ingredients list. EU has 14 recognized allergens (cereals/gluten, crustaceans, eggs, fish, peanuts, soy, milk/lactose, tree nuts, celery, mustard, sesame, sulphites, lupin, molluscs)
  • Net quantity, date of minimum durability ("best before") or use-by date
  • Storage/use instructions, business name & address of the food operator
  • Country of origin
  • Full nutrition declaration: energy, fat, saturates, carbohydrate, sugars, protein, salt — per 100g/100ml
  • Minimum font size: 1.2mm x-height generally, 0.9mm if pack surface < 80cm² (Annex IV)

Religious & Organic Certifications

No religious certification is required by EU law. Halal/organic claims are optional but if made, must be substantiated — organic requires an EU-recognized certifying body; halal requires a credible certifying body named on the label.

Italian-Language Requirement

Italian-language labeling is required for retail sale in Italy specifically (national implementation of FIC). Khandani Foods provides bilingual labels meeting both EU-wide and Italy-specific requirements.
